If you don’t often use your pool, but find that you spend every single day during your vacation poolside, then chances are it’s time for an upgrade. You can get so much more use out of your outdoor pool space simply by rethinking what it means for you to be poolside. If your current pool is more or less just a hole in the ground, then it’s no wonder you don’t use the pool you have at home but can’t seem to get enough of it at a hotel.
The fact is, being in the water is just one element of being by a pool. How you feel when you’re outside of said pool matters so much more, which is why if you’ve been struggling to love your own pool, it’s time to upgrade it with these top tips.
· Redesign the Lounging Space
One of the best parts of being poolside is lounging by the pool as you dry off in the warm weather. If your pool doesn’t offer a great lounge space, then you’ve immediately made your pool “hostile”. You jump in, you swim a few laps, and you get out. Since there’s nowhere comfortable to relax afterwards, you end up forcing yourself to go back inside.
That’s why the best first step is to redesign the lounge space. This often means building a patio around the pool itself where you can put deck chairs, a small table, and decorative elements (at a minimum).
Tip: Invest in high-quality chairs, cushions, and an adjustable umbrella that allows you to stay shaded if and when you want.
· Improve the Essentials
Once you know the new boundary of your pool (that now includes an expanded lounge space), it’s time to upgrade the essentials. This means changing out any old, ugly, or even rotting pool fence with a glass pool fence installation so you can easily see how beautifully tempting that water is from your back door.
You’ll also want to either replace or give a facelift to your outdoor shed. This could be as simple as sanding it down and repainting it, or it could mean adding a new shed to store all your pool equipment and cushions.
· Deep Clean
If necessary, deep clean the space. This may require you to drain your pool first, and even hire specialist tools like a pressure washer. If this sounds like too much work, hire a professional pool cleaning service to bring your pool back to life. Years of use can mean the grout, concrete, and even plastic elements in your pool age, stain, and crack, and a deep clean can do wonders towards restoring your space without needing to replace anything.
· Add Shallow Lounging for Your Pool
One of the reasons why a pool may not get as much use as you expect is because you can’t comfortably lounge in it. That’s why it’s time to add shallow lounging to your pool. There are a few options available to you, including a high-quality floating lounger or a pool hammock. These options will allow you to relax while just grazing the water in the pool or reading a book in cool comfort.
